Modernisation of a classic Eddy Merckx bike

Three month ago I bought an 1995th Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra in darkblue metallic. It was build up with Shimano 600 parts, partly renewed with oldest Ultegra parts. My plan was to build up a comfortable roadbike with a Columbus SLX (or similar) steel frame but all new parts to have the latest shifting performance and handling. I was not on the retro-mainstream to have it as originally as possible. I like steel frames, they are not old iron. They are comfortable and rugged, but you have to add 1 or 1 1/2 kilo to the bike weight. I think that's ok.

A bike maniac from Ibiza forced me to use Campa parts. A european frame like this should wear european parts, basta ! After all, I must say, he was right. Campagnolo's Athena 11speed ist now mounted and working perfectly. Here you can see the latest pictures of the bike. Some parts are still on the wishlist. Other bottlecages, a new headset, another rear hub, an original Campa Aero seatpost aso.....will need some time.
